Jacob Elordi’s Return to Bottega Veneta
Brand ambassador and rising star Jacob Elordi is back in the spotlight with Bottega Veneta’s latest campaign. Titled “What are Dreams,” this new endeavor features a captivating short film and a stunning photo series, all captured through the lens of renowned photographer Duane Michals.
A Surreal Exploration
Set in Michals’ own New York home, the campaign consists of a collection of black and white portraits that delve into the “unconscious, imaginary, and uncanny.” Drawing heavily from the Surrealist movement, the twelve striking visuals portray Elordi in enigmatic scenarios, adorned with poetic props and motifs reminiscent of Michals’ artistic influences, including iconic figures like Giorgio de Chirico and René Magritte.
The Artistic Vision
In the accompanying film, Elordi recites Michals’ poem “What are Dreams,” an excerpt from the photographer’s 2001 photo book, “Questions without Answers.” Michals shares his artistic vision: “I’m very much interested in the realm of the invisible. My problem is how do I make the invisible visible? Of course, movie-making is also a dream, and Frankenstein is a scary dream. Jacob understood exactly what I was trying to do with the project. He was right there for the magic and the mystery of it.”
A Historic Collaboration
This collaboration not only highlights the synergy between Elordi and Michals but also reflects the brand’s legacy. Michals previously photographed one of Bottega Veneta’s campaigns back in 1985, making this partnership a bridge between the past and present. Elordi, who was named the brand’s ambassador last year, embodies the modern spirit of the house.
